Costa Rica concessions Liberia airport to Houston Airport

Houston Airport, the administrator of the Juan Santamaria airport, was granted the concession for the expansion of the Liberia airport.

The expansion project for the Daniel Oduber airport in Liberia, Guanacaste, will require an initial investment of $35 million to construct an area of 22949 square meters and will concessioned for 20 years, indicated Karla Gonzalez, Minister of Public Works and Transport.

The works are expected to be ready by December 2009. The airport currently receives more than 400,000 thousand passengers per year.

The American company, Houston Airport System, is one of the five firms that formed the Coriport S.A. consortium that was chosen to the build the new terminal. The consortium includes Canadian MMM Aviation Group S.A. and three Costa Rican companies.

Liberia Airport Project Paralyzed

Costa Rican government is undecided as to whether to continue with the current expansion project or to construct an entirely new terminal.

In October 2008 the government of Oscar Arias awarded the airport expansion project to the Coriport consortium. In May this year the same government approved a plan to build a new terminal located to the west of the existing one.

Company "Sociedad Concesionaria Coriport S.A." will operate the concession of International Airport Daniel Oduber Quirós in Liberia. reports that this company "is composed by MMM Aviation Group S.

Work On Liberia Airport to Begin in December

The Costa Rican government signed a contract giving the concession for the expansion of Daniel Oduber Airport, in Liberia, Guanacaste.

The project, which includes the construction of a two story building with a total area of 23,000 square meters, is in the hands of the consortium Coriport S.A., composed of by the firms MMM Aviation Group S.

Expansion of Liberian airport postpones completion to 2010

Changes to the specifications sheet has again set back the bidding process for Liberia's airport to August 8, making it impossible for works to begin during 2008.

This is the fifth time the date for receiving proposals has been changed for the construction and operation of the airport's new passenger terminal.
