Costa Rica Tourism Institute Evaluates Playa del Coco Marina

The Costa Rican Tourism Institute traveled to Playa del Coco in Guanacaste to evaluate plans for the construction of a marina in the area. The project has already been approved by the Interinstitutional Commission on Tourist Marinas and Docks and is waiting approval by the Carrillo Town Council to receive the necessary concession.

The current plans for the marina would include 299 spaces for boats and would be located in the Punta Centinela in Playa del Coco. A dock and administration installations would also be constructed.

102 tourism businesses were recognized by the ICT for their environmentally friendly operations and their communities.

The Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) has given these awards to a group of hotels and tour operators, which carry "leaves” one to five. A rating of five "leaves" means best environmental practice and social sustainability.
