Costa Rica: Heredia Hospital Construction Progresses

With an $85 million total investment, works at the Heredia Hospital complex are 73% completed.

The six buildings comprising the hospital complex are already built, and they will be equipped between April and May 2010.

"...to the moment we have complied with each of the milestones in the schedule, so it is expected that Edica Ltda, the company in charge of equipping the buildings, could deliver the complex to the Costa Rican Social Insurance Authority by April 2010", said construction chief Robert Sánchez Acuña, in an article in Prensalibre.cr.

Costa Rica Seeks Funding for Hospital Construction

The Social Security Department has begun negotiations with the World Bank for $400 million to build a replacement hospital in Puntarenas, which was damaged by the recent earthquake.

The $400 million would also serve to finance other Social Security Department (CCSS) projects, including digital records, work on the new hospital in Cartago, and a new medical tower for the San Juan de Dios Hospital.

Costa Rica's social security agency (CCSS) has begun the process of purchasing 10 hectares of land for the construction of the new William Allen Taylor health facility.

CCSS (known locally as the Caja) is now working on the building's design and in construction plans, commented the architect Gabriela Murillo Jenkins, CCSS infrastructure and technology manager.
