Costa Rica: Exports to Central America Growing

Between January and August 2014 sales to Guatemala and Honduras rose by 6.4% and 4.6%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.

In the first eight months of the year total exports from Costa Rica amounted to $7,842.5 million, just 1.77% more than in the same period last year. Sales to Central America increased by 0.1%, while Guatemala and Honduras were the destinations which reported the highest growth.

Other markets which showed growth in these eight months, excluding electronic components are :, Colombia (11.9%), Cuba (26.8%), Chile (78.2%), Brazil (6.4%) , Aruba (18.7%), Peru (6.1%), Guyana (101.8%), Barbados (30.8%), Norway (34.4%), Russia (41.6%), China (17.7%), South Korea (158.8%) and Japan (33.9%). "

"... According to Procomer, growth of products such as medical devices was noteworthy, with an increase of 18.9% compared to the same period in 2013. Also pineapples with 13.6%, bananas with 9.3%, other food preparations with 13.9% and 37.9% more milk than the previous year. "

Central American trade (exports + imports) reached $60,780 million during the first nine months of 2011. This exchange is 21.9% higher than in the same period last year, equivalent in absolute terms to an increase of $10,922.4 million.
