Costa Rica: Eleven Land Offers for Hospital

The CCSS received land offers valued between $ 3 and $ 19.5 million for its new hospital in Cartago.

Gabriela Murillo, Infrastructure Manager for the Social Security Fund (CCSS), said the next step is to verify the offers received. She added the decision on which property will take several months.

"In early August, the institution had informed this newspaper they were looking for a property of no less than 15 hectares,” reported.

In two weeks the country's social security agency (CCSS) will publish details of the bid criteria for the land where the hospital will be built.

The search is for a 15 hectare site or bigger close to the center of Cartago province, south east of the Costa Rica capital, San Jose.

The $4 million invitation to tender is to acquire land on which to build the new Max Peralta Hospital.

The land to be offered should be in Cartago province, not more than 6 km from the hospital's current location.

The optimum size for the site is considered to be between 110,000 m2 and 150,000 m2, for the purposes of building a regional hospital.

Costa Rica to Build $35 Million Hospital

Costa Rica's social security agency (CCSS) has begun the process of purchasing 10 hectares of land for the construction of the new William Allen Taylor health facility.

CCSS (known locally as the Caja) is now working on the building's design and in construction plans, commented the architect Gabriela Murillo Jenkins, CCSS infrastructure and technology manager.

The Costa Rican Social Security department will be receiving bids in January for the construction of a hospital emergency room in Perez Zeledon.

Next year the Costa Rican Social Security Department (CCSS by its initials in Spanish) will invest $14 million in a new emergency and tomography room at the Fernando Escalante Pradilla Hospital.
