Costa Rica Centralizes Foreign Trade Procedures

An announcement has been made of a beta version of a digital platform for paperwork and export permits which is integrated with related institutions.

From a press release by the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Costa Rica :

This morning (yesterday) PROCOMER launched the beta version of Single Window for Foreign Trade (VUCE) 2.0 a project that will revolutionize the export sector and domestic importer, offering an interoperable platform ( with approvals in minutes) between the 16 state institutions state that are involved in foreign trade procedures.

VUCE 2.0 guarantees that businesses have a 100 % digital experience, which will reduce paper consumption to zero and provide a 24 -hour service, seven days a week throughout the year (24/7/365), minimizing human intervention. It will represent a saving in time and processing costs for exporters and importers of up to 90%.

24/7 Approvals for Import Permits

With the implementation of the VUCE 2.0 system, approvals of import permits managed by companies in the food, medical, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors in Costa Rica are set to be accelerated.

From a statement issued by PROCOMER:

San José, December 7, 2017. Companies in the food, medical, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors that operate in Costa Rica will have greater ease in acquiring their raw materials and finished products, now that the VUCE 2.0 system will implement a 24/7 approval system for import permits (technical notes) for those sectors.

Nicaragua: Online Foreign Trade Procedures

February 2017

By mid-year the Single Window for Foreign Trade could be functioning, enabling online procedures to be used for obtaining permits and documents required for export or import.

The Ministry of Development, Industry and Trade (MIFIC) announced that in May pre customs formalities for exports and imports in Nicaragua will be able to be done online through the Foreign Trade Single Window (known as VUCEN in Spanish).

One Stop Shop for Foreign Trade in Honduras

August 2013

A single processing desk will be opened for foreign trade in order to speed up control formalities for land carriers.

From a press release issued by the Executive Directorate of Revenue (DEI):

The Executive Directorate of Revenue (DEI), with the support of the Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic of Honduras and the technical support of International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank (WB), will start running a Single Foreign Trade Desk (known as VUCEH by its initials in Spanish), to streamline controls for land carriers, reducing costs and contributing to trade facilitation.

III Meeting of InterAmerican Single Foreign Trade Windows

On 20 and 21 May, representatives from more than 20 countries in America will discuss in El Salvador the features of this tool and its influence on foreign trade.

El Salvador has been selected as the site to host the Third Meeting of Single Foreign Trade Windows, an event that is sponsored by the Inter-American Development Bank and will be attended by representatives from 27 countries of Latin.
