Costa Rica Apr 2007-08 coffee exports up 25% to 241866 bags

Costa Rican coffee exports in April, the 7th month of the new 2007-08 crop cycle, were up 25% to 241,866 (60-kilogram) bags, the official Costa Rican Coffee Institute, or Icafe, said Monday.

This compares to Costa Rican coffee exports of 193,406 bags in April last year during the 2006-07 crop cycle, Icafe said in its latest monthly report on the new harvest year (October-September).

El Salvador Apr 2007-08 Coffee Exports Up 55% To 214696 Bags

El Salvadoran coffee exports in April, the 7th month of the new 2007-08 crop cycle, were up 55% to 214,696 bags (60-kilogram) bags, the Salvadoran Coffee Council said Thursday.

This compares to Salvadoran exports of 138,655 bags in April 2007 during the 2006-07 harvest year, the council said in a report.

Costa Rica Coffee Production Down 18%

In 2008/2009, the country produced 2.06 million 46-kg sacks, an 18% reduction when compared to 2007/08, when production reached 2.43 million sacks.

Edgar Rojas, sub director of Costa Rica’s Coffee Institute (Icafé), explained that the reasons for this reduction are less planted area and ageing plants.

Honduran coffee exports increase 5.5%

3.39 million sacks (60 kilos each) were exported during the 2007/08 harvest which ended in September, way above the 3.22 million for the previous harvest.

Honduras hopes that its coffee exports will grow to 3.64 million sacks for the 2008/09 harvest, said Ihcafe this week.

Salvadoran Coffee Exports Down by 23.5% Salvadoran

According to the Salvadoran Coffee Council, exports totaled 183,113 60-kilogram bags for the month of April.

Total exports of this crop (October to April) also fell by 7.44% for a total of 773,875 60-kilogram bags.

La Prensa Grafica published on its website: "El Salvador expects to produce 1.4 million bags 60-kilogram bags of coffee for the 2008/09 harvest, a figure lower than the 1.5 million bags during the 2007/08 cycle, according to figures."
