Korea Shopping for Nicaraguan Coffee

A delegation of buyers is touring the Jinotega Region, in the country's north, looking to buy premium coffee.

They will stay in the country until January 23rd, and are negotiating directly with coffee growers, through the 28 cooperatives that receive aid from AECID (Spanish Agency for International Cooperation in Development).

From Laprensa.com.ni: "AECID informed that Korean corporation Terarosa Coffee Roster seeks a three-year contract, paying $200 for each quintal of premium coffee".

El Salvador: 54% of Exported Coffee is "Special"

In the 2010/11, the country exported 600,526 quintals of special coffee, generating foreign exchange of $136.59 million. For this harvest, 2011/12, 660,593 quintals have been exported up to August, with foreign exchange earnings of $165 million.

According to information from the Salvadoran Coffee Council (CSC), this year $302.08 million has come into the country in foreign exchange from coffee exports, of that number 54% is from the sale of specialty coffee (which includes gourmet organic , sustainable and Fair Trade, among others).

El Salvador Could Sell $2.5 Million Coffee to Taiwan

Local farmers reported that 18 containers would be shipped to Taiwan in the next harvest.

Representatives from 7 Taiwanese companies participated in business rounds with local growers and learned about the coffee production process.

“Although most growers have already committed their 2009 production, they expect to sell at least 18 containers to the Asian country”, reported Laprensagrafica.com.
