Construction: Prices Start the Year Upwards

Because of the behavior of the costs of timber and roofs, in Nicaragua the prices of construction materials registered a 13% increase in January with respect to the same period in 2018.

In the five chapters comprising the aggregate of the Index of Prices of Construction Materials (IPMC) increases were registered in January, with the greatest variation recorded in the chapter of timber and roofs (21.9%), followed by metals and derivatives (17.0%), electricity and lighting (7.2%), cement and derivatives (5.6%), and sanitary and flooring (5.1%), reported the Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN).

The BCN report notes that "... The results indicate that the IPMC recorded a 12.8 percent average variation over January of the previous year (5.2% in January 2018 and 12.2% in December 2018).

Additionally, the January IPMC showed a 0.9 percent average variation with respect to the previous month (0.3% in January 2018), mainly because of the increase in the prices of products that make up the chapter: metals and derivatives (1.6%), timber and roof (1.2%), and electricity and lighting (0.9%)

The costs of wood and roofs, and metals and derivatives, explained during the second month of the year the 10% year-on-year increase in the prices of construction materials in Nicaragua.

The statistics of the Price Index of Construction Materials (IPMC) corresponding to February 2019, indicate that the IPMC registered a 9.6% year-on-year growth regarding the same month of the previous year, variation greater than the 8.4% reported in February 2018, informed the Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN).

Building Materials: Prices up to October 2018

In Nicaragua, the Building Materials Price Index recorded an increase of almost 10% during October compared to the same month in 2017.

The Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN) reported that the Building Materials Price Index (CPI) registered a 9.9 percent year-on-year growth compared to October of the previous year (8.8% registered in September 2018 and 3.7% in October 2017).

Nicaragua: Construction Prices Up 9%

June 2018

During May, the Construction Materials Price Index registered a variation of 9% with respect to the same month in 2017.

The report explains that " ...Of the five chapters that make up the IPMC aggregate, the highest growth was recorded by metals and derivatives (14.8%), followed by wood and ceilings (10.2%), electricity and lighting (8.6%) and cement and derivatives (5.6%). On the other hand, there was a decrease in the chapter of toilets and flooring (-1.2%)." 

Nicaragua: Prices of Construction Materials on the Rise

March 2018

During the second month of the year, the Construction Materials Price Index registered a variation of 8% compared to February 2017.

The Central Bank of Nicaragua reported that "... statistics on the Construction Materials Price Index (IPMC) corresponding to February 2018, indicate that the IPMC registered a year-on-year growth of 8.4 percent in relation to February of the previous year (5.2% January 2018 and 0.7% February 2017). "
