Imports by country
In the first half of the year, the largest purchaser of candies and chocolates in Central America was Guatemala with $37 million, followed by Costa Rica with $34 million, Panama with $30 million, Honduras with $29 million, El Salvador with $20 million and Nicaragua with $17 million.

Origin of imports
From January to June 2018, 28% of the value imported from Central America was from the U.S., 21% from Mexico, 7% from Colombia and 3% from China.

During the first six months of the last seven years, the U.S. is the market of origin of imports that has grown the most, since in 2012 represented 25% of total purchases and in 2018 reached 28%.

Variation in regional imports
Between the first half of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the value imported into Central America registered a 3% increase, rising from $161 million to $167 million.

On the other hand, for the periods concerned the volume purchased also reported a growth, in this case was 21%, going from 59,225 tons to 71,779 tons.
