Colon Free Zone Sells 17% More in Panama

In February, sales at the Colon Free Zone (ZLC) were 17% higher than the same period of 2009.

Leopoldo Benedetti, CEO of the ZLC, explained that these figures are also better than February 2008 and 2007.

He stated that ZLC management has introduced new incentives for investors, as they now receive adequate information to decide future investments.

Activity in Colon Free Zone up 10%

In accordance with what was reported months ago, from January to October 2018 the commercial activity of the Panamanian Free Trade Zone increased to $19.641 million, 10% more than that recorded in the same period of 2017.

In the first ten months of the year, imports into the Colon Free Zone (ZLC) totaled $9.199 million, and re-exports increased to $10.441 million, 9.5% and 9.6% higher than recorded from January to October 2017, respectively.

Panama: Car Sales Up 17% in July

Between January and July 2013 car dealerships sold 31,745 new cars while in the same period of 2012 the figure was 27,142.

The statistics were supplied by the Automobile Dealers Association of Panama (ADAP). During the first months of 2013 more than 4,603 cars were sold than in the same period in 2012.

In the first two months of 2013 automakers sold 10% more cars than in the same period of 2012.

During January and February 2013, 7994 units were sold in Panama, or 755 more vehicles than were sold in the same period of 2012, equivalent to a growth of 10%.

These figures were reported by the Automobile Dealers Association of Panama (ADAP), which groups together more than 51 car brands which are distributed around the country.

Commercial Activity Increases 17% at the Colón Free Zone

In May, commercial activity at the Colón Free Zone was $1.574 billion, 17.4% more than the $1.340 billion reached during the same period of 2008.

A 20% increase in imports and a 15.2% increase in re-exports were registered.

Roberto González in an article in Prensa.com highlights comments by Raúl Moreira, director of Planning and Finances at the Colón Free Zone: “...the first months of the year are usually the slow season and after May activity resumes."
