Thursday, July 21, 2011

James Ridge in his article in Prensa.com, reported that "The company Hidrosuelos Panama, S.A., which was incorporated in March 2011 and whose managers are from Colombia, was the only one that presented itself yesterday to the Authority for Urban and Household Waste (AAUD in Spanish) to bid for the $21 million consultancy tender for the "development of comprehensive diagnostic studies on the Patacón hill landfill ", which has a reference price of 22 million. The tender was made only one day after another Colombian company (Interaseo , Inc.) bought, for more than $12 million, Urbaser, a Spanish company that used to manage the landfill.

Seven companies participated in the approval process for this public event on 30 June. All sought, unsuccessfully, an extension to submit their proposals.

The consultancy required by the AAUD relates to the auditing, technical mediating, legal and environmental aspects of the landfill’s operation, including review of the contract signed in 2008, signed by the Spanish company Urbaser and the Municipality of Panama .

As of Tuesday, the responsibility for the landfill in the capital was transferred to the consortium Interaseo, SA, part of the Colombian business group led by William Velez, who also wants to get the mulit million dollar tender for the collection of hospital waste in Panama and San Miguelito.
