Coffee Exports Down by 7.93%

During the first seven months of the coffee year, nine Latin American coffee producers have exported a total of 15.5 million 60-kilogram bags.

For the same period last year, exports were 16.8 million 60-kilogram bags.

Sigloxxi.com published: "The most drastic drop suffered by the group of Latin American countries was recorded last April, when exports fell by 18.25% overall compared to the same month of the previous coffee year."

Slowdown in Guatemala's Exports

May 2013

The cause is a contraction in consumption in major markets for Guatemalan exports, mainly sugar, coffee and rubber.

This is mainly due to international market stagnation and decline in prices of commodities such as sugar and coffee. "Among these markets is the U.S., the country's main trading partner.

Guatemalan Coffee Exports Fall

In the first month of current crop harvest, exports fell by 15.84% over the same period of the previous year.

Last October foreign sales totaled 70,028 bags (60 kilo bags), 15.84% less than the 83,211 bags exported in October 2009, according to the National Coffee Association (Anacafe).
