Central America: Pineapple Exports Up 8%

Exports by country 
Between January and June 2017 the main exporter of pineapples was still Costa Rica, with $482 million sold, followed by Honduras, with $19 million, Guatemala, with $6 million and Panama with $6 million. Nicaragua and El Salvador did not register significant exports. 

Variation of regional exports  
Between the first semester of 2016 and the same period in 2017, the export volume of pineapples went up 5%, going from one million tons in 2016 to 1.1 million tons in 2017.

For the periods in question, the export value also registered an increase, growing from $477 million to $514 million.

Price of exports
Between April 2012 and June 2017, the average price per kilo of Central American exports grew by 13%, rising from $0.40 to $0.45.

Destination of exports 
During the first semester of 2017, 51% of the value exported from Central America went to the USA, 12% to the Netherlands, 8% to Belgium, 7% to Italy, and 6% to the United Kingdom.

Last year the region exported more than $1 billion worth of pineapples abroad, 8% more than in 2016, and 50% of exports went to the United States.
