Customs Union between Guatemala and Honduras passes implementation phase after submission of the Enabling Protocol to SICA.

Central, 4 May 2016. The Republics of Guatemala and Honduras, accompanied by the Secretariat of Central American Economic Integration (SIECA), officially delivered the Enabling Protocol for the Deep Integration Process into the free transit of goods and individuals between the two countries, for its submission to the General Secretariat of the Central American Integration System (SICA).

Businessmen press for Panama's integration into SIECA

The Federation of Chambers of Commerce on the Central American Isthmus (FECAMCO) urged the governments of CA to carry out concrete negotiations for the integration of Panama into SIECA.

The president of the entity, Costa Rican Carlos Federspiel, said to Acan-Efe that in the face of the financial crisis that started in the US "it is necessary to strengthen intra-Central American trade and for Panama to be integrated into the economic system of the region and other agreements such as the Agreement of Association with the EU."

Sieca to Launch Customs IT Systems

In the first half of the year, the Central American Economic Integration Secretary (Sieca) will launch two IT systems for customs offices.

They are called Siauca (Unified Customs Information System for Central America) and AIC (Integrated Central American Tariff).

Siauca "is to be used exclusively by the customs authorities of the five countries of the region, and will enable them to freely exchange information", reported Capitales.com. Meanwhile, "AIC is an information tool covering imports and exports from the 5 Sieca countries".

Central American Harmonized Tariff Code Moves Forward

May 2010

The World Customs Organization and SIECA will sign an agreement to support Central America in harmonizing and standardizing custom procedures.

Currently, Central America has 96% of its tariff code harmonized, and the remaining 4% will be discussed over the next two years. A unique, harmonized tariff code should be ready by 2012, when the Association Agreement with the European Union is expected to come into effect.
