Canadian consumption of premium quality fruit and vegetables offers Costa Rican producers attractive possibilities for new export markets, a study by the country's export promotion agency, Procomer, reveals.
From January 4th this year exports will be permitted of Australian mangos to the North American country, with focus initially being given to the premium segment.
Between January and October 2014 the South American country exported 18% more fresh fruits to the European Union, as a result of the tariff benefits arising from the agreement.
The improved tariff conditions that will come with the entry into force of the trade deal with Canada will facilitate entry into a country which imports 30% of the food it consumes.
The increase in sales of fruits and vegetables in the South American country could open up opportunities for a significant proportion of the exportable supply from Central America.
