Procomer's latest research reveals that many opportunities exist for doing business in Canadian markets.

Canadian consumption of premium quality fruit and vegetables offers Costa Rican producers attractive possibilities for new export markets, a study by the country's export promotion agency, Procomer, reveals.

"Currently, the main exports to Canada are textiles, prosthetic limbs and tires, although some fresh Costa Rican products such as pineapple and coffee are exported," reports

Colombia Increases Fruit Exports to Europe

Between January and October 2014 the South American country exported 18% more fresh fruits to the European Union, as a result of the tariff benefits arising from the agreement.

From a statement issued by the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promotion Office (Procomer):

The tariff benefits coming from the Free Trade Agreement between Colombia and the European Union (EU) are promoting new exports, said ProColombia.

Honduran Agricultural Products Going to Canada

The improved tariff conditions that will come with the entry into force of the trade deal with Canada will facilitate entry into a country which imports 30% of the food it consumes.

Chile Consumes More Fruits and Vegetables

The increase in sales of fruits and vegetables in the South American country could open up opportunities for a significant proportion of the exportable supply from Central America.

An analysis by the Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (PASO), at the Ministry of Agriculture of Chile noted that foods such as fruits, vegetables and dairy have entered on into the daily diet of Chileans in the past 10 years, while others such as sugar, rice and pulses have experienced a decline.

Better Conditions for Fruit Exports

The EU withdrew quality requirements for several fruits and vegetables, while Canada is reporting a decrease in production.

Quality requirements for 26 fruits and vegetables where removed by the European Union, but they were maintained for 10 products, the most sensible for the region, although they will enjoy more permissiveness.
