Canada: Good Market for Costa Rican Fruit and Vegetables

Procomer's latest research reveals that many opportunities exist for doing business in Canadian markets.

Canadian consumption of premium quality fruit and vegetables offers Costa Rican producers attractive possibilities for new export markets, a study by the country's export promotion agency, Procomer, reveals.

"Currently, the main exports to Canada are textiles, prosthetic limbs and tires, although some fresh Costa Rican products such as pineapple and coffee are exported," reports Elfinancierocr.com.

US Imports Mangos from Australia

From January 4th this year exports will be permitted of Australian mangos to the North American country, with focus initially being given to the premium segment.

In an alert given in November 2014 the upcoming opening of the US market for mangoes from Australia was reported.

Colombia Increases Fruit Exports to Europe

Between January and October 2014 the South American country exported 18% more fresh fruits to the European Union, as a result of the tariff benefits arising from the agreement.

From a statement issued by the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promotion Office (Procomer):

The tariff benefits coming from the Free Trade Agreement between Colombia and the European Union (EU) are promoting new exports, said ProColombia.

Honduran Agricultural Products Going to Canada

The improved tariff conditions that will come with the entry into force of the trade deal with Canada will facilitate entry into a country which imports 30% of the food it consumes.

Honduran fruits and vegetables will be among the products most exported into Canada once the free trade agreement between the two countries enters into force, experts say.

Chile Consumes More Fruits and Vegetables

The increase in sales of fruits and vegetables in the South American country could open up opportunities for a significant proportion of the exportable supply from Central America.

An analysis by the Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (PASO), at the Ministry of Agriculture of Chile noted that foods such as fruits, vegetables and dairy have entered on into the daily diet of Chileans in the past 10 years, while others such as sugar, rice and pulses have experienced a decline.
