For example, the importance of food and non-alcoholic drinks has varied since the start of the process in 2005. According to current measurements, domestic budget provide 33.49% for that item; however, under the new consumer price index, which will be ready in 2009, the weight of this expense will drop to 26.16%.

Panama's CPI Rises by 1.5% from January to March 2013

The Consumer Price Index in March increased by 4.1% compared to the same month in 2012.

Information published by the Comptroller General of the Republic of Panama:

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in March compared to February 2013 showed an increase of 0.4%, both in the National Urban category, and for the districts of Panama and San Miguelito, while in other urban areas, it was 0.3 %.

El Salvador: July inflation at 9.6%

The increase in prices in July, measured by the Consumer Price Index, rose to 9.6%, the Department of Statistics and Census reported.

Just between June and July, prices rose an average of 1.3%, with the biggest increase in the price of food items at 2.4%, explained Miguel Corleto, head of DIGESTYC.

The price of the basic food basket in urban zones of El Salvador jumped by 6.27 dollars in June. In rural areas the increase was 4.08 dollars.

The increase in food prices coincided with the increase in the minimum wage.
El Salvador's national statistics-gathering body reported that residents of urban areas were paying 172.83 dollars for the main food products in June, while in the country the cost was 130.80 dollars.

Over the past five years, the basic basket of consumer goods has risen by 42 dollars, or 67.5 percent, but just in the past year it has gone up by 28 dollars.

In May 2003, the cost of the basket was 124.56 dollars, while in 2007 it was 138.21 dollars. This May the price was 166.56.
