Shrimps: Exports Expected to Fall

Honduran producers estimate that at the end of 2019 the volume traded abroad will register a reduction of six million pounds compared to what was reported in the previous year.

Directors of the National Association of Aquiculturists of Honduras (Andah), explained that one of the factors that has affected the sector are the low prices that are recorded internationally.

Victor Wilson, president of Andah, told Laprensa.hn that "... this year shrimp production is expected to be reduced by 12 million pounds and exports by six million pounds."

According to producers, during 2018 shrimp farming in the country represented revenues of $229 million.

According to reports from CentralAmericaData, in 2018 the main exporter of frozen shrimp and prawns in Central America continued to be Honduras, with $234 million, followed by Nicaragua, with $84 million, Panama, with $50 million, Guatemala, with $45 million, Costa Rica, with $12 million and El Salvador with $0.3 million.
