Honduras, Main Seller
In 2020, the leading exporter of coffee in Central America was Honduras, with $873 million, followed by Guatemala with $652 million, Nicaragua with $440 million, Costa Rica with $329 million, El Salvador with $108 million and Panama with $25 million.

For the year in question, Costa Rica's foreign sales increased 18% in year-on-year terms.

Nicaragua and Guatemala reduced their exports by 4% and 2% respectively, El Salvador reduced its sales by 0.2%, while Panamanian sales fell 6% and Honduran sales fell 8%.

Changes in Regional Exports
Between 2019 and 2020, the value exported from the region decreased 3%, from $2,496 million to $2,433 million.

The year-on-year decline in sales for the period under analysis is partly explained by the performance of exports to the U.S., which decreased from $900 million to $857 million.

Export Prices Up
In recent months, the average price of regional coffee exports has registered a clear upward trend, rising from $2.72 per kilo in December 2019 to $3.14 in December 2020.

Destination of Exports
In 2020, the value exported from Central America was destined for the USA with 35%, Germany with 14%, Belgium with 10%, Japan with 6%, Canada with 6% and Italy with 5%.

During the first three months of the year, coffee exports from Central American countries totaled $747 million, 17% less than what was reported for the same period in 2018.

During the first six months of the year, coffee exports from Central American countries totaled $1,948 million, 9% less than what was reported in the same period in 2017.
