"The decline in port activity is attributed to the global crisis, but particularly to the decrease in sales from the Colon Free Zone to Venezuela and Colombia, the main customers of this zone," reports Prensa.com.

The only ports to register increases were PSA (Panama International Terminal), which operates in Rodman and Colon Container Terminal in Colon.

"According to data from the Maritime Authority of Panama, of the various sizes of containers handled in specialized ports for this activity, 40 foot containers are the most active, followed by 20 feet or TEUs, and in last place units measuring 45 feet.

The most affected port terminals are Cristobal and Balboa, followed by Manzanillo International Terminal . "
