Regional Business Downwards
In 2018, Central American imports of electric cables decreased 32% with respect to the previous year, as a result of a decrease from $791 million to $539 million.

Costa Rican Companies, Main Buyers
Last year, the main importer of wires, cables and other conductors for electricity in Central America was Costa Rica, with $164 million, followed by Guatemala, with $110 million, Panama, with $104 million, Honduras, with $79 million, El Salvador, with $42 million and Nicaragua, with $41 million.

Origin of Imports
During 2018, 25% of the value imported from Central America was from Mexico, 21% from the U.S., 13% from China, 7% from Panama Free Zone and 2% from Spain.

In the last seven years Mexico is the market of origin of imports that has grown the most, since in 2012 represented 16% of the total value purchased by the region and in 2018 this proportion rose to 25%.

Guatemala Imports More Electric Cables from Mexico

July 2018

During the first quarter of the year, companies in Guatemala allocated $11 million to the purchase of electric cables in Mexico, 29% more than was reported in the same period in 2017.
