Boom Energy Drinks Continue in U.S.

The consumption of energy drinks and "Ready to Drink" coffee increased by 14.3% and 9.5%, respectively.

During the period 2011-12 energy drinks increased sales more than any other segments with 14.3%, followed by ready to drink (RTD) coffee with 9.5 %, bottled water 5.8 % and RTD tea with 9%.

The Marketing Corporation of New York Beverages predicted a positive end to 2013 in the beverage market in the U.S., which represents a continuation of the growth trend that occured in 2012.

In the period 2011-2012, energy drinks increased sales more than the any other segments, achieving an increase of 14.3 %, followed by ready to drink (RTD) coffee with 9.5% bottled water with 5.8% and RTD tea drinks with 4.9%. On the other hand, value-added water had a decrease of 1.5 %, as well as soft drinks, which are the category with the highest market share.

This action was taken as a measure to put pressure on people to reduce consumption of these beverages and replace them with healthier ones.

The U.S. beverage industry is facing a series of changes in consumer preferences, as revealed by analysts from the Healthy Beverage Expo 2013.As part of these changes what stands out is a decline in demand for traditional soft drinks and implementation of labels that are sensitive to touch. Regarding the first issue, analysts said there are currently 76 million people who belong to the baby boomer generation, which previously did not eat healthy foods, but are now looking for ways to increase their vitality and prevent chronic health problems through food.
