Bimbo Invests $3 Million in Guatemala

The multinational company will inaugurate in January its new crackers production line.

Felipe González, production manager at the new Chimaltenango plant, reported that exports to the Dominican market will begin on the same date, and that 54 new jobs will be created.

"Currently, the plant outputs 2.500 monthly tons of various products like breads, cookies and cupcakes, which represent 2.344 exported containers each year", reported local newspaper Prensa Libre.

Grupo Calvo Increases Investment in El Salvador

The tuna company will invest between five and ten million dollars this year in order to increase its production infrastructure.

Grupo Calvo’s CEO in Central America and the Caribbean, Michelangelo Peñalva, without specifying the amount, said that the planned investments will contribute to the creation of 400 new jobs.

In order to increase its production capacity, the processor and marketer of tuna has invested $5 million to improve the operating plant in La Union, El Salvador.

Since its establishment in the country in 2003, the company has expanded its operations and increased exports to over twenty countries.

Grupo Calvo plans to hire new temporary staff at its tuna packing and processing plant.

Company spokespersons reported that the company will try to make these jobs permanent, and eventually take the figure to 1,500.

Guatemala: Best Exporter Award 2009

Bimbo de Centroamérica S.A. was recognized as the Best Exporter of the Year by Agexport.

Agexport, the Guatemalan Exporters Association, awarded various companies in different categories.

Local newspaper El Periodico lists the winners: Tecojate S.A. won the Agriculture Exporter award, Genesis Partnership Company won best Manufacture Exporter, Transactel won in Services, and the Productivity award was given to Paul Ecke Guatemala.
