Authorities coordinate Panamá Homeport

Security and Tourism authorities in Panama met to prepare actions for the start of the ninth cruise ship season and the first for the Panama Homeport project.

300,000 tourist are expected to spend around $60 million up to April 30, 2009 and 40,000 more with Panama Homeport starting in December.
The meeting was held on Tuesday at the Ministry of Governance and was presided by Rodrigo Cigarurista, vice minister of Public Security, who indicated that an integral plan is being executed to utilize the resources of the various institutions and to strengthen the coordination and security at airports and at each of the ports that receive cruise ships.

Royal Caribbean has confirmed the port of Colon as its point of departure for cruise ships until 2011-2012.

The second season will finish in April 2010, and the third will run from November 2010 to April 2011. A fourth was confirmed, from November 2011 to April 2012.

Michael Ronan, vice president of Royal Caribbean said that in order to maintain Panama as the Home Port, “passengers must be satisfied, the product must generate benefits for the company and we must identify demand in the long term”.

The Colon 2000 port, Colon and Panama cities, were debuted yesterday as the home port for a big cruise ship.

The new Colon terminal experienced the launch of the Enchantment of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean Ship that will sail the southern Caribbean with approximately 2600 passengers for the next six days, visiting Cartagena and Santa Marta in Colombia, Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire.
