Norberto Suárez of the National Association of Coffee Processors and Exporters of Panama, stated that "…the increase in the FOB value is exceptional."
"... Suarez clarified that smaller amounts are being traded, although at higher prices. Quintal value increased from $ 180 to $ 210, but coffee plantations have been reduced by 60% in the last 15 years," informed an article in Prensa.com.
The FOB value of Central American exports totaled $7,919 million in the first quarter of 2012 seeing a growth rate of 8.5%.

Exports in Central America reached a FOB value of U.S. $7.91 billion during the first quarter of 2012, an year on year increase of 8.5%, less than that from January-March 2011, which was of 22.0%.
Foreign sales grew in 2011 at an annual rate of 25%, the highest percentage in the last 30 years.
Due to the high international price of coffee, silver and gold, oil and rubber, the amount of foreign currency received was more than $10,000 million.
By sector, manufacturing is expected to close with a 20% increase in exports relative to 2010. Total sales exceeded $2,800 million, of which 31% are sales of exported chemicals.
Exporters project an increase of $ 300 million for this year compared to 2010.
The director of the Export Procedures Center (CETREX), Jorge Molina, said the projected increase for this year is based on the average growth of the past seven years, which was 15%.
"In 2010, according to preliminary data CETREX published on its website, the value of exports was 1,920.06 million dollars, 450 million Dollars more than in 2009, year in which exports declined compared to 2008," reports Laprensa.com.ni.
