In terms of volume, an increase was also reported. For the same period in 2011, exports were 3.6 million kilos, while in 2012 the total was 4 million.

The United States is the main market for Salvadoran footwear totaling $18.2 million, followed by Central America.

"Doris Rivera, Industrial Intelligence manager at the Salvadoran Association of Industrialists (ASI), said footwear exports since 1994 have been growing constantly.

‘Shoes made in El Salvador are good quality shoes with high requirements from the countries where they are exported to’, said Rivera", reported Elmundo.com.sv.

Central America Buys More Footwear From the USA and Spain

Salvadoran Textile Exports Rebound

In the first eight months of the year maquila exports reported an increase in volume of 22.3% and 10.9% in value.

Data from the Central Reserve Bank shows that total exports reached $822.4 million up to August 2011.
