Rise of Natural Cosmetics in US

Growth in demand for natural cosmetics by consumers in the U.S. is a potential business opportunity.

A statement from the Trade Office of Costa Rica (PROCOMER) reads:

The sale of natural cosmetics in the United States continues to grow

According to a report in the journal Natural Food Merchandiser, in 2011 the purchase of natural cosmetics in the U.S. grew by 8% compared to 2010, while the increase in 2010 compared to 2009 was 1%, which demonstrates that consumption habits, selectivity in purchases and the search for a better alternatives have been factors in the increased use of these products.

Experts believe that the recovery of this sector can be attributed to, along with consumers being happier, the fact that there is more innovation in product development and improved efficiency of this area, the study notes that many companies have invested primarily in research and development, especially in the facial care category, since customers are more financially prepared to invest in these products.

In terms of turnover, in 2011 daily use products for personal hygiene, hair care and fragrances also enjoyed growth.

Cosmetics for Asians

Of the $3,300 million worth of in skin creams, lotions and bleaching products for men sold worldwide in 2013, 64% was purchased by Asians.

Adding up to a total expense of $2.1 billion, Asian men outpace those in the U.S., who spent $286.4 million and Western European men who spent $682.9 million on personal care products in 2013.
