Vice president Rosario Murillo gave details on 10 new projects to be executed in the next six months for free zones dedicated to different productive activities.

The 10 projects announced are:
1- Call Center in Managua DMF, 102 direct jobs, 2.7 million investment. 2- OOQIA S.A. software development, 2.5 million investment, 40 direct jobs. 3- Tabacos Asociados de Nicaragua, cigar factory in Esteli, 40 direct jobs, nearly one million dollar investment. 4- Xperts de Nicaragua, Managua contact center, 689 direct jobs, 1.8 million investment. 5- Logística Agroindustrial, tobacco logistics company in Esteli, 104 thousand investment, 10 direct jobs. 6- San Lotano Cigars, cigar factory in Totogalpa, 249 direct jobs and 2.7 million in investment. 7- International Textile & Trade, logistics company for the textile sector in a free zone in Ciudad Sandino, 20 direct jobs, 100 thousand investment. 8-CWX Nicaragua, S.A. logistics company in the textile sector in Managua, 20 direct jobs, nearly 500 thousand investment. 9- SPI Technologies Nicaragua, 50 direct jobs in Managua, creating web pages and the similar products, 520 thousand investment. 10- El nuevo mundo del tabaco, industrial park in Totogalpa, nearly a million dollars of investment, 13 jobs.
An announcement has been made of the launch of a new tobacco production export plant in the city of Esteli, with an investment of $2 million.
Government representatives noted that the 1000 square meter production plant will operate under the free zone regime, employing 400 people and it will start operating in January 2016.
This economic activity generated $95 million in 2012 and has shown sustained growth in recent years.
In 2011, sales of Nicaraguan cigars -102 million units, totaled $95 million. The U.S. is the main market, where 95% of production goes.
In Nicaragua there are 25 cigar factories that create 15,000 direct jobs and 22,000 indirect jobs, mostly in the northern region, mainly in Esteli, said the secretary of the Nicaraguan Cigar Association, Leonel Raúdez to Laprensa.com.ni.
The firm Hansae and a local partner will build new facilities for producing fabric in Niquinohomo, south of Managua, with capacity for 7,000 jobs.
A local company and the Korean textile firm, Hansae, will build on a total area of 70,000 m2 a new facility for a textile factory, which represents the extension of the Asian firm's investments in Nicaragua, said the president of Zona Franca SA Niquinohomo, Mario Zelaya.
The German autoparts company expects to start operations by year's end in a free trade zone.
In 2008, company representatives announced their intention to operate in the country, planning to generate 2,000 jobs.
According to the an AFP report published in mipunto.com, "Because of the crisis, the factory decided to open operations with only 1,000 workers in the city of Masaya, 26 km south of Managua," said Alvaro Baltodano, the executive secretary of the Free Trade Zones Corporation of Nicaragua.
