Tender Announced for Port Equipment

The state-owned National Port Authority, Honduras, will be buying equipment in order to start the renovation of bulk dock at Puerto Cortes.

Dario Gamez, manager of the state National Port Company (ENP in Spanish), said the company will soon be inviting bids for the purchase of equipment for modernization of the dock 5 or the bulk dock at Puerto Cortes.

"We shall begin the restoration of the dock number five, we will put out to tender a purchase for new equipment, loaders, sealing head, possibly a forklift to improve the parts that are a bit shabby and depending on the economics, we will try to improve most of the equipment at the docks," Gamez said to Laprensa.hn.

"We have been approved a loan of $90 million and we are also waiting for a response from the Central Bank, to give us the same amount, and there is a work of the concession with a local bank for a bulk pier, but we yet have to study conditions of the contract," he added.

The U.S. firm SSA Marine, through its subsidiary Manzanillo International Terminal in Panama, has announced plans to invest more than 200 million dollars in Colon over the next few years in order to expand the range of port services offered by this prestigious company to the shipping line companies.
