Alba Buys Hotel and Ranches in Nicaragua

A subsidiary of Alba, Albalinisa S.A. acquired a luxury hotel and two cattle ranches in a transaction estimated to be at $10 million.

The purchase was done to Sociedad Seminole S.A., and includes an hotel in the downtown of Managua and two estates with about 3,000 heads of cattle and a center for genetic enhancement.

Honduran president announces union to ALBA

President Manuel Zelaya announced that Honduras will join the Alianza Bolivariana de las Américas (ALBA), lead by Venezuela and Cuba.

"The government's political decision, aiming to solve the historical problems of the country, is to join Alba as a full member", stated Zelaya.

Honduran Congress approves adhesion to ALBA

The Honduran Congress approved Honduras' adhesion to the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas.

President Manuel Zelaya said yesterday from Colombia, where he is on an official visit, that he was happy to receive the new and thanked the president of the Honduran Parliament for his support as well as those lawmakers who gave their support.

Nicaraguan Exports to Venezuela

There are concerns that the trade partners are constructing a commercial “house of cards” built on shaky foundations made of political rhetoric.

During Daniel Ortega’s government exports from Nicaragua to Venezuela have increased from $2m to $119m. The figure for 2010 will likely be double the latter. The main products exported are beans, meat and livestock.

On October 9th the Honduran Congress ratified the country’s membership in the Alternativa Bolivariana para los pueblos de nuestra América (ALBA, Bolivarian Alternative for American Countries), a regional grouping promoted by Venezuela and Cuba.
