Elperiodico.com.gt explains that "...The procedure, which would not generate any additional cost, will allow paperwork done by a Guatemalan exporter to be transmitted electronically, sending a notification to Mexico, so that the authorities can be satisfied of the origin and compliance with the required permits for entry of merchandise."

According to the authorities at the Ventanilla Unica de Exportaciones of Mexico, tests have already been started to transmit information through both windows.

Joaquin Gonzalez, manager of the VUPE in Mexico, explained that "...'The aim is to establish a channel between systems and make foreign trade transactions be completely electronic'. To enable the electronic procedure a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Guatemala and the National Health, Food Safety and Quality Service of Mexico needs to be signed, allowing for the exchange of information."
