According to the interactive information system "Construction Projects in Guatemala", complied by the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData, Tramo SB-3, S.A. submitted an Environmental Impact Study (EIA) called "Vía SB-3", to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in March 2017.

This new route will be able to connect to the already existing Alternate Route of the South (Vía Alterna del Sur or VAS in Spanish), which would enable some of the traffic that does not need to enter the capital city to be diverted to the CA-9 highway.

The project consists of the construction of a new Private Road, for use as an expedited route with controlled entry and exits, to connect Route CA-01 Oriente (Road to El Salvador) with the Departmental Route RDGUA-01 (Calle a Villa Canales) .

The SB-3 route will have a main corridor of 6 lanes, 3 circulating in each direction, a length of 8.67 kilometers, at the level of the central line and will have five intersections that total 7.75 kilometers of axes.

This project, in addition to allowing a connection between Carretera to El Salvador (CA-01 Oriente) and the Route to the Pacific (CA-9), will also complement the project "Vía Exprés Nor-Oriente" promoted by the National Agency of Alliances for the Development of Economic Infrastructure (ANADIE). Since the Vía Exprés Nor-Oriente consists of the construction of a toll road that will connect the Road to the Atlantic with the Highway to El Salvador, which in turn will connect to the second phase of the private road Vía de Acceso del Sur SB-3 ), at kilometer 25 of the highway to El Salvador.
