$500,000 at Cup of Excellence Auction

Thirty-three of the grain lots that won the 2009 edition of the Cup of Excellence in El Salvador participated in the auction.

In total $506,221.15 were negotiated during the electronic auction. The winner of the competition, El Topacio farm, reached a price of $22.25 a pound.

According to La Prensa Gráfica, "Luis Rodriguez, head of economic studies of the Salvadoran Coffee Council (CSC), noted that the auction sold a total of 1,144.6 quintals, with an average price of $442.25 per hundredweight."

Coffee Auction Ready to Start in Nicaragua

The electronic auction is set to begin tomorrow for the 26 best lots of coffee at the Cup of Excellence 2009 event.

The vice-president of the Nicaraguan Association of Special Coffees (ACEN, acronym in Spanish), Julio Peralta, said that the base price for this year is $2.50 per pound, or $250 for 100 pounds.

Sixth Cup of Excellence in Honduras

June 2009

The 37 lot auction is scheduled for tomorrow, with 700 bags of 150 pounds being offered at an initial price of $2.50 per pound.

Rony Gámez, head of the quality control lab at the Honduran Institute of Coffee (Ihcafé acronym in Spanish), said they are expecting to beat the price per pound they received during 2008.
