In the definitive regime exports of sugar and ethyl alcohol were the only products that showed a significant increase (36.9 % and 108.5 % respectively) compared to the previous year.

Exports of major agricultural products were the most affected, with falling sales of bananas (7.9%, because of a drop in production, despite better prices), coffee (26.5% due to a fall production and lower prices ) and ornamental plants (6.9%, due to falling prices). Only registered pineapple sales increased (7.1%, due to an increase in production).

If exports of goods in the definitive regime are added to sales by companies operating under the free zone regime, -which grew by 6.3% - Total exports from Costa Rica in 2013 recorded an increase of 1.4% compared to 2012.
