The announcement was made by the Agriculture Ministry (SAG). Vice minister Juan Angel Artrica also commented they plan to sow 24 million quintals of corn (11 million of yellow grain, and the rest of white).

“Such plan comprises the first sowing (May to December) of rice, corn and some bean, as it is a high consumption product (5.000 daily quintals)”, reported La Tribuna.

To meet internal demand, the Government will invest $264 million to cultivate 700 thousand acres of corn, rice and red beans.

With the $264 million, the government plans to produce about 22 million quintals of corn, 1 million quintals of rice and 2.2 million quintals of red beans in 2009," said Héctor Hernández, Minister Agriculture and Livestock, to Hondudiario.com.

Spain will provide funds for increasing basic grain production in Panama.

The money will be used to boost rice, beans and corn production.

Victor Pérez, agricultural development minister, told Pa-digital.com.pa: "The Food and Agriculture Organization will install its Central American offices in Panama. This means they will store in Panama all the seeds that will be distributed in Central America".

Guatemala Negotiates $50 Million for Agriculture

$211 million to reactivate agriculture in Honduras

This amount will be used for the planting of the first basic grains early next year.

The National Congress (NC) will have some $211 million (4 billion lempiras) in the national budget for the reactivation of agriculture, said lawmaker, Toribio Aguilera, a member of the budget commission.
