Martin Zwilling, investor and entrepreneur in the technology sector, shared some tips with Bnet.com on how to motivate the staff and make them feel engaged to the company:

1. Do not send mixed messages to employees, there is nothing more disconcerting than to say something today and something to the contrary tomorrow.

2. Be direct with your team, if your superiors say something which you disagree with, explain it to your team.

3. Do not act as if the most important thing is your career and your benefit: selfish behavior will generate the same behavior within the team.

4. Take responsibility for your actions: this is the only way to make others responsible for theirs.

5. Never jump to conclusions without checking everything first: a mature leader never overreacts to an event or new information.

6. Do what you say you are going to do: your actions must be consistent with your words.

7. Answer: return calls, answer emails. If something is important, be sure to communicate it in real time.

8. Admit your mistakes and take the blame for the failures, there is no better way to learn and teach.

9. Recognize the work of your team and make it public: when the team does things right, make sure others know about it.

10. Ask and listen.

And above all, remember that the day you stop listening and learning will be the day you stop progressing as a manager and a leader...
