$1.02 billion spent by tourists in Panama

Spending by tourists visiting Panama between January and September 2008 increased by 19% in comparison to the same period the previous year.

According to the Main Monthly Economic Indexes report by the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic, even though increase is the lowest since 2004, tourist arrivals and spending continue to set records so far this year.

Visitors to Panama Keep Increasing

October 2012

In the first nine months of the year the number of tourists coming to the country increased by 6.9% compared to the same period in 2011.

Between January and September 530,574 tourists arrived, 98,907 more than in the same period in 2011.

"Foreign exchange earnings amounted to 1.6731 billion, an increase of 19.5%, or approximately an additional $273 million compared to the previous period.

Tourist Arrivals to Panama Up 5%

September 2012

Between January and July, the country received 1,236,407 visitors, a 5.4% increase compared to the same period in 2011, when there were 1,172,565 visitors.

The total paid by tourists for the same period was $1.301 billion, an increase of 19% compared to the previous year when spending was $1.093 billion.

Panama: Record Tourist Numbers

August 2011

In the first half of the year tourists arrivals to the country nearly doubled compared to the same period in 2010.

Expenditure by the approximately 1.2 million visitors was $908.8 million, a 10.3% increase compared to last year.

An article on PAdigital.com.pa’s website reports, "Solomon Shamah, the Minister of Tourism Authority (PTA), said he was pleased with the figures and predicted that they could reach the sum of 2 million tourists by December.

Panama: Tourists spent $677.2 million during the first semester

During the first half of the year, tourists spent a combined total of $677,289,000 for an increase of 19.7% compared to the same period last year.

There was a two digit increase every month. The most significant was in the month of May when tourist spending was $104,516,000 or 27.3% more than same month last year.
